Welcome to Speedie Readies, part of the Word Mapping Mastery system®. A self-teaching pathway for communication, reading and spelling in the early years. Learn how to use the orthographically mapped Village With Three Corners book series online.
Let's support children at home with Speedie Word Mapping

Home Learning (5-8 yrs)
We will show you how to support your child at home with Speedie Readies. The Spelling Routine is brilliant for dyslexic learners. If you start early, and focus on mapping words that are interested in, you won’t have to battle with them to learn to read and spell because it’s fun. It becomes part of their play, indoors and out, and they can learn with very little instruction. We Show the Code, so you don’t need to figure out how to explain the logic of English and they can explore the words and stories they are interested in. We make ALL words 'decodable'.

This work focuses on how children transition into independence, and how self-teaching emerges through meaningful reading and spelling experiences. We cannot stress enough how crucial the birth to seven years are, because this is when self-teaching is most easily established and reading becomes something a child chooses.
In reading science, spelling is not optional or secondary. It is one of the strongest drivers of self-teaching and orthographic learning. That is why we train practitioners to use The Spelling Routine with Mapped Words, so that word knowledge is stabilised and available for fluent reading.
Reading and spelling are not separate skills. They are the mechanism by which children store words, build stamina, and move into deep reading.
In the member area, we also show how children learn to read in the real world, including cases where word mapping instruction before age seven was minimal or absent. Progress is still possible, but it is harder and depends heavily on intrinsic motivation, particularly the child’s desire to read. We cannot stress enough how crucial the birth to seven years are, because this is when self-teaching is most easily established and reading becomes something a child chooses. Please do not rely on anecdotal accounts of children “reading when they are ready”. For around one in four children, this does not happen with this man-made invention.
We need children to connect speech sounds and spelling as a matter of urgency as they approach the danger zone, around age eight, if we are to prevent reading and spelling difficulties. Speech sound processing is easier in the early years because of greater brain plasticity. As children grow older, they can begin to disengage and become distracted by other interests, and are very aware that this is something that is hard for them, makes them feel stupid, making intervention more difficult. And yet we can prevent this if we start to Show the Code and Check the Tech from birth!
They need this connection early, and you simply do not have the time to explain the mapping of high-frequency words in detail when they are aged 5- 8. Just Show the Code so they can pause, write the words, and say the sounds.
They also use the core word mapping activities including the Spelling Routine, and others which you will learn more about in the Spelling Corner! Better still, train as a Speedie Word Mapping tutor to become an expert in bi-directional word mapping! This means mapping words from print-to-speech and also speech-to-print! For older children who have already experienced difficulties this is crucial.
We will show you how to use the tech to work with books they want to read.
However, our tech is getting better and our goal is to keep creating tools that cut down on prep time and Show the Code as quickly and easily as possible.
